About Mercii

I am a former educator, social justice advocate, and freelance consultant who is passionate about expanding accessibility, diversity, and inclusivity in wellness spaces. The teaching and practice of yoga helps unify and balance the disparate parts of my lived experiences -- and I am excited to share it with others!

I began practicing yoga as a means to increase flexibility. With an athletic and cheer/dance background, I expected yoga to come easily to me. It. Did. NOT. By focusing on what a pose should “look like”, I completely missed how I “felt”  in the posture.

To deepen my practice, I worked as a Karma Yogi at a black-owned yoga studio for several years. I crafted an aligned, embodied, and consistent yoga practice that allowed my body to move sustainably. It was here that I developed a deep appreciation for the diversity of the yoga community and nurtured the desire to share yoga with those around me. I completed my 200-Hour teacher training in Denver, CO and am excited to encourage people to move mindfully with me!

Prior to earning my certification, I worked as an elementary health/physical education teacher. I am a proud alumna of Howard University, earning my bachelor's degree in Psychology and master's degree in Education Administration. When I am not practicing, I love spending time with friends and family, reading a quality book, and discussing the nuances of "The Last Airbender" or "The Office" as needed.

About the Approach

My teaching style is student-centered, non-judgmental, and affirming. I love to connect with students to get an idea of who they are, where they are in their yoga practice, and how I can help. Knowing this, I create sequences that are full of positive sensations. Expect functional movement, dynamic flows, and a balance of postures sealed with mindful breathing. Throughout this practice, I hope to encourage students to honor where they are in the moment and appreciate their body's individuality.
